Every model dreams of turning their modeling career into something more then a walk down the runway.
Jewelry designer to the stars, Judith Murat did just that after launching a jewelry line in 1999.
Since her launch, Murat has worked with Hollywood's biggest names including Anne Hathaway, Tyra Banks, Jennifer Lopez, Eva Longoria and Jennifer Hudson.
Many of her pieces are inspired by fantasy excavated from nature and the sea. Picture a showroom with hundreds of jewel encrusted flowers, seahorses and mermaids scattered across a table. Think The Little Mermaid meets Breakfast At Tiffany's.
In addition, Murat incorporates delicate gold metalwork and precious stones such as rubies and color drenched diamonds that she gathers from around the globe.
I caught up with this master crafter to get the scoop on her celebrity clientele and her latest collection.
What made you want to go into jewelry design?
It was a new challenge for me. I've always been involved in sculpture, painting and for me jewelry was a natural progression in the zenith in all that I've done any my work. Someone had seen my oil paintings and sculpture work and told me to start designing jewelry and I jumped right into it
What inspired your summer line?
The garden and anything to do with outdoor living inspired my latest collection. I'm greatly inspired by flowers and I started thinking about incorporating their beauty into my designs and now they can be spotted in pieces that feature butterflies, frogs, flowers and all of life's most beautiful things.
Which celebrity do you think rocks your jewelry the best?
Anne Hathaway has a look and she wears my jewelry very well. It doesn't take away from her, it adds to her and her beautiful features
Who would you love to see wear your jewelry?
Nicole Kidman. My pieces are very large but wouldn't overpower her, they would give her even more power. Any of my necklaces would look amazing on her because they're ethereal and so is she.
What is your favorite piece you've created?
The Star of Atlantis necklace is my favorite. It speaks for itself.
