No wonder Brazil's most popular export is models!

Gisele Bündchen made her way across the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro on Aug. 3 during the Opening Ceremony of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. The 36-year-old supermodel, who "retired" from the runway back in 2015 made triumphant return to the spotlight and strutted across the LED stage, appropriately rocking a glittery dress by Brazilian designer Alexandre Herchcovitch. The standout sparkly number featured  a high slit to show off the Brazilian's gorgeous gams.

"This is for sure the longest runway I have ever walked in my life and by far with the most amount of people watching, so it is a little nerve-wracking I must say," Bündchen told PEOPLE before the ceremony on Friday. "This is a very special moment for my country and I am humbled that they invited me to be a part of such a special celebration."

Gisele made her head-turning walk while Daniel Jobim's live rendition of "The Girl from Ipanema" boomed throughout the stadium. And her moment didn't stop there. She joined a group of her fellow Brazilians and danced the night away as performers at the Ceremony took on a Carnival atmosphere.

The electric ceremony served as the official kick off to the Games of the XXXI Olympiad which will run until August 21 with more than 10,500 athletes from 206 National Olympic Committees (NOCs), including first time entrants Kosovo and South Sudan.  With 306 sets of medals, the games will feature 28 Olympic sports including rugby sevens and golf, which were added by the International Olympic Committee in 2009. These sporting events will take place at 33 venues in the host city and at five venues in the cities of São Paulo (Brazil's largest city), Belo Horizonte, Salvador, Brasília (Brazil's capital) and Manaus.
