The production for "Maze Runner: The Death Cure" has been postponed because of an accident suffered by lead star Dylan O'Brien (Thomas) during the filming of the "Scorch Trials" sequel.

The actor had been in hiding for the past months following the accident, but he was recently spotted out in public. A fan who had asked to take a photo with the actor shared the image on Twitter. In the picture, O'Brien is seen sporting a thick beard, his hair disheveled. Despite the unkempt appearance, the actor looked like he was in good spirits.

O'Brien's outing has prompted fans to ask whether he is ready to go back on set now. "Teen Wolf" producer Jeff Davis has already confirmed that the actor will be part of the show's sixth and final season. The reshoots for the show, however, will be delayed because of the actor. It has nothing to do with his injuries, though. O'Brien is reportedly set to start filming for another project in September.

Does this mean fans can expect the actor to be back on the "Maze Runner" set soon, too?

The film's director, Wes Ball, has hinted that the production might resume in December. No formal announcement has been made, though.

Answering a fans' question about getting a bit role in the film, Ball said: "I hear you. :) but right now it's too early. In December you should find audition announcements."

A couple of weeks after O'Brien's accident, Fox announced that production for the last film in the series based on James Dashner's books will be stopped indefinitely.

"The resumption of principal photography on 'Maze Runner: The Death Cure' has been further delayed to allow Dylan O'Brien more time to fully recover from his injuries," the statement reads. "We wish Dylan a speedy recovery and look forward to restarting production as soon as possible."

"Maze Runner: The Death Cure" is slated for a Jan. 12, 2018 release.
