The premiere of the TV series "Being Mary Jane" airs on BET Tuesday, July 2 at 8:30/9:30 p.m. CT in the form of a two-hour movie. The series is expected to start in January.
Starring 40-year-old Union, "Being Mary Jane" is described on Twitter:

BET writes: "Fourth of July weekend is a time to celebrate the values of family, strength and independence. Mary Jane Paul is a woman who embodies these traits in a story about the joys and struggles of navigating through life as a fiercely independent, modern woman."
Union plays Mary Jane Paul, the successful TV anchor.
She said her role was "sort of a secret dream come true," according to the Associated Press.
In a recent interview, Union dished on not getting the lead role in ABC's hit series "Scandal," which Kerry Washington has now.
"I said to myself, 'Oh my God, these roles are out there,'" Union recalled in a recent interview. "It showed me that you don't have to settle. Luckily, the success of her and the show bred more work. Just from the audition process, I knew that I couldn't go backward."
"I didn't get 'Scandal,' but I got something better - which is my own show," Union said. "It's all about building a legacy. This new opportunity is something I feel that can grow."
She added, "If you loved me for one thing and may not have liked me in something else, this role gives the audience a chance to see that I can do more than one thing," said Union, who starred in movies such as "Deliver Us From Eva" and "Daddy's Little Girls."
Now that her career is moving forward, it seems that her relationship with Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade will also become a success.
Despite numerous cheating rumors and mistress scandals, Wade showed the world at the 2013 BET Awards that he only has eyes for his "beautiful black queen," Gabrielle Union.
