Growing up, "Jane the Virgin" star Gina Rodriguez identified a lot with little Rudy (Keisha Knight Pulliam) of "The Cosby Show," and she hopes that her character Jane Gloriana Villanueva will serve as that same figure of inspiration to girls nowadays.

"I know there's controversy [because of lead star Bill Cosby's rape allegations], but let's just think about the show itself - I was seeing a family of darker skin that were successful. They had a really strong family foundation, they were talking about issues without having a judgment one way or another - that was so relatable to me," Rodriguez told Deadline.

For the longest time, Hollywood has a singular standard for beauty, and all the lead characters of movies and shows look the same. Rodriguez hopes that their show is helping change that standard by featuring Latina beauties with different skin tones and body shapes.

"When it comes to Hollywood, people will say, 'Oh girl you got to be skinnier,' or 'you have to look like this,' but that doesn't show you what I can do and the capabilities that I have," she told Latina. "I can tell any story, that's the reason why I'm an actress. I'm not an actress because of my looks. That is not me."

Rodriguez added that celebrities either play into the beauty norms of Hollywood and start tearing themselves down, but she refuses to play that game at all.

"It is a constant battle. It doesn't go away, but I'm planning on winning that battle. I'm going to work off my heart and my soul and that's going to be the beauty I'm looking for," she said.

When asked about the show's plans for the third season, Rodriguez said that she hopes they would get even more guest stars. Britney Spears and Ke$ha had made "incredible" cameos in the past, and Rodriguez is hoping that Prince Royce would follow soon.

For now, "Jane the Virgin" season 2 airs every Monday on The CW.
