"The Huntsman: Winter's War" star Charlize Theron feels proud of what they have accomplished in their new film because it delivered strong, empowering roles for women.

The actress said that it has been the standard in Hollywood for women to get generic roles while men portray interesting and complex characters.

"I find it interesting every time people ask me about whether my character is strong or vulnerable. 'Do you like wearing jeans? Or do you prefer gowns?' Well, I'm all those things!" she told The Inquirer.

"That misconception is more pronounced in the movies, where women have been portrayed for so long to be just one thing or another," she continued. "We can be just as conflicted as men-we can be dark, vulnerable and strong in a female way. When a man is ambitious and assertive, we say,  'That's a strong man.' But when a woman does that, we call her a b*tch."

Theron has been doing media junkets for the past 20 years, but never once has she heard anybody ask a male actor the same question.

"It says something about how we view men and women-and I think that's slowly changing. We're seeing more flawed women doing contradictory things," she observed.

Meanwhile, Theron's co-star Jessica Chastain also gushed about their new film. She cannot stop raving about the action scenes and visual effects of the film, but what she truly loves best about "The Huntsman" are the "badass" women she got to work with.

"They are all completely different. They are all as powerful as the Huntsman," she told Radio Times of her female co-stars and their characters. "This is a equal opportunities film, finally!"

In the film, Chastain plays the warrior Sara, who is Brighton the Huntsman's (Chris Hemsworth) love interest. Theron plays the evil queen Ravenna while Emily Blunt is the ice queen Freya.

"The Huntsman: Winter's War," which is directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, will make its way to cinemas on April 22.
