Julianne Hough revealed that she was honored by original "Grease" star Olivia Newton-John as she steps into the role of Sandy in "Grease Live."

"It's huge that I got her blessing," Hough said in an interview with People of the singer and actress, who guest-starred alongside the "DWTS" pro on the judges panel during season 21 of the reality dance competition.

Newton-John starred opposite John Travolta in the 1978 film version of the musical.

Hough was able to ask questions of the singer about her experiences making the film during their time together on the panel.

"She's exactly what you hope she would be, so awesome and supportive," revealed Hough to People.

The film had a huge impact on the "DWTS" star growing up with her family in Utah.

"Grease was the first movie that I saw that I realized you could sing and dance and act all in the same movie," the "DWTS" judge remarked to the publication.

"Grease is one of the movies that made me want to be an entertainer. I have literally been waiting my whole life to play Sandy," said Hough in a statement to Time.

"My siblings and I watched it and played it out over and over when we were kids. This is my dream role and performing it live on television will be one of the most thrilling opportunities I've had in my career so far," the "DWTS" judge revealed.

But don't expect her to be a carbon copy of Newton-John's performance when she goes live Jan. 31 on Fox.

Although the film is a recreation of both the stage play and movie, Hough will not be copying her idol's mannerisms.

"Olivia has specific moments in the film, like when she states 'Tell me about it, stud,' where I know people will be disappointed if I don't say it like she did with her inflection," Hough explained. "But for the most part, I am doing my own thing."

"Grease Live" airs on Fox Jan. 31.
