It looks like Carey Mulligan may be filling the shoes of iconic female politician Hillary Clinton.
The British actress, who's married to Mumford & Sons member Marcus Mumford, has been tapped to play the former first lady, New York senator and Secretary of State, in the new biopic "Rodham".
Following her role as Daisy in the recently released "The Great Gatsby", the 28-year-old star is now the prime candidate for the much coveted role, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Mulligan is now the front runner to play a young Clinton ahead of American Hollywood starlets like Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Chastain and Emma Stone.
A source said the Oscar nominee will be meeting with "Rodham" director James Ponsoldt, but that both sides are eager to make the casting work out.
The new indie movie, due to be released sometime in 2014, will be about a young Clinton working as a lawyer involved in former president Richard Nixon's impeachment.
At this point, neither the producers nor Mulligan have confirmed the casting.© 2013 Fashion & Style.com All rights reserved. Do not reproduce without permission.
