"Grease Live" has its share of guest stars from the original film as part of its cast when it premieres on Fox the end of January, but there is one person who won't be part of the cast; the film's original star John Travolta.

E! News reported that Travolta was approached by the producers of the Fox remake and he turned them down.

"They did ask, but you know, that's my history," stated Travolta.

He did reveal that he will be watching it when it airs, despite his insistence to be no part of the reboot of the iconic 1978 film, where Travolta co-starred with Olivia Newton-John.

"Like Sound of Music and other things, to do a live production is kind of fun and it'll be interesting to see it," Travolta remarked to  E! News.

"[Grease] is done every day in high schools, it's done every summer in summer theater," he stated of the musical that, coupled with his star turn in "Saturday Night Fever," made him a film icon.

Recently added to the cast were two members of the original cast, Didi Conn, who played Frenchy and Barry Pearl who played Doody.

Conn will play Vi, the waitress who counsels Frenchy before her memorable meet up with the Teen Angels.

The Teen Angels will be portrayed by R&B superstars Boys II Men.

Pearl's role in the production has not been announced yet.

Although the film's female lead Olivia Newton-John will also not be a part of the Fox reboot, she did give her blessing to "Grease Live's" star Julianne Hough when she guest judged on "Dancing with the Stars" during season 21.

"This is my hero, this is my 5-year-old dream, so for her to give me that blessing to take that weight...I hope I make her proud. I want to discover the role Sandy for myself and still honor what Olivia did. I hope that she's watching...she's better than you'd hope she would be," said Hough of playing the role of a lifetime.

"Grease Live" airs Jan. 31 on Fox.
