Steve Nash is trying to ban his ex-wife from moving to LA so he can avoid paying child support, according to court documents filed by the ex-wife.

TMZ reports that the Lakers guard and his ex-wife Alejandra Amarilla are locked in a legal battle over where she is allowed to move. Amarilla reportedly wants to relocate from Phoenix to Los Angeles so their three children can be closer to Steve Nash.

However, Nash has tried to block the move to avoid paying child support, Amarilla claims.

Amarilla says that Nash told her he didn’t want her to move because he might be traded or forced into retirement, causing the family to move again.

However, Amarilla says the real reason he wants her to stay in Phoenix is because California courts are more likely to impose larger child support obligations on him.

Amarilla claims Nash is not paying any child support and is not obligated to under Phoenix law.

The Huffington Post reports that Nash refuses to pay child support because he thinks Amarilla is already getting enough money and he’s worried she might spoil their children if she gets more.

He claims that Amarilla made millions from their divorce and he already pays for some of his children’s needs.

Bleacher Report writes that it’s a strange situation, given that one of Nash’s reasons for signing with the Lakers was his need to be near to his kids. He called his three children his “No. 1 reason” to move to Los Angeles instead of joining the Knicks and moving to New York.

For now, a judge has issued a restraining order, prohibiting Amarilla from moving until after their trial next week.
