‘White Collar’ Season 5 Spoilers [VIDEO] Matt Bomer, Hilarie Burton Fake Engagement Is Major Arc, A Lighter Season, Neal Finds Himself

We reported on May 12 that director Jeff Eastin wanted to return to the roots of the show and re-set the relationship between Matt Bomer's character, Neal, and Tim DeKay's character, Peter.

Season 4 was pretty intense given that Neal's father arrived on the scene and framed Peter for the death of Sen. Terrence Pratt.

At the end, Peter is put behind bars for a crime he didn't commit and Neal's father gets away.

So what do we have waiting for us in season 5? Director Jeff Eastin has many ideas, including the fact that Neal and Sara's fake engagement will be a major arc of the show.

He said, "I don't think we're done seeing Sara. England isn't that far away for someone like Neal and her...We'll keep that relationship going for a little while longer" as per The Hollywood Reporter.

Eastin also said that Season 5 will be a little lighter than season 4. "We did a heavily serialized season this year. You had to pay attention to every episode this year, and next year, I want to relax that a little bit."

As a result, he's going to develop Mozzie's character. "I want to have some episodes with Mozzie that can stand on their own, so if you missed an episode or two, you're not lost in the mythology."

There's also a chance that Neal will realize who he really is in the next season. "Neal is looking for his identity: I'm not the guy with the white hat who is the hero. Am I the guy with the black hat who's the bad guy?" asks Eastin.

He goes on to answer his question, saying, "To me, it's why he's a con man with a conscience..A lot of that is closing on the final chapter for Neal. He's getting closer to realizing ultimately who he is. That'll play out in the new season."
