Australia’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week wrapped up in Sydney last week, with model Georgia May Jagger stealing the show, according to Hello! magazine.
Georgia May Jagger, 21, is the daughter of the Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger and supermodel Jerry Hall. She modeled a bandeau bikini and leather jacket in a Peruvian-inspired show for designer Camilla, reports the Huffington Post.
The collection was called Pachamama, in reference to the “Earth goddess” or “Earth mother” associated with Andean indigenous groups.
The Canberra Times wrote that some said that Australia’s Fashion Week was more glamorous than New York’s.
“It’s a lot more glamourous here. People are a lot more dressed up in Sydney, everyone knows each other so I guess we try a bit harder to prove ourselves,” said Elle Australia editor Justine Cullen.
“In New York when you’re there, especially in February when there’s always a blizzard, people are just in their snow boots and puffer jackets. Obviously you’ve got the fur in the front row but from there back it’s all puffer jackets and serious business," she added.
Far from puffy jackets and snow boots, Sydney’s fashion week showcased new looks for summer from designers including Camilla and Marc, Ginger & Smart, Romance was Born and Kym Ellery, according to the Daily Telegraph.
International buyers and press flocked to Sydney for the show, including ShopBop, Matches and Net-a-Porter, making Sydney a rising star in fashion weeks worldwide.
“If there was a top of the charts of global fashion weeks with New York, London, Milan and Paris making up the top four, Sydney is fast clambering up to try and claim that fifth spot,” reports the Daily Telegraph.
The Spring/Summer 2013 season showcased summer dresses, sandals, skirts and plenty of swimsuits. Check out the best bikinis above.
