It looks like pregnant Kate Middleton won't be getting Princess Diana's dress collection.

A lucky bidder is taking home the late Princess Diana's famous navy Victor Edelstein dress she wore to the white house gala. Yes, the 1985 gala, in which the princess famously danced with John Travolta.

CNN reports the dress collection, sold by auction house Kerry Taylor Auctions in London, brought in a total of $1.2 Million. The famous "Travolta" gala Victor Edelstein dress brought in the highest bids and was sold for $362,424 to "a British gentleman as a surprise to cheer up his wife," Kerry Taylor Auctions says.

That should cheer up the sad wife!

So how exactly are the prices for these famous dresses determined?

"You can look at what they sold for, you can look at how simple the thing is," Kerry Taylor of the auction house explained of Princess Diana's dresses. "If it was worn on a state occasion, or if it was for a private dinner, are there photographs of the princess wearing it, are there film reels of the princess wearing it, and is there a human story that adds to it?"

No wonder the iconic Victor Edelstein dress sold for so high, as it is considered to be Princess Diana's most iconic dress worn by her, including her final 1997 portrait.

Other dresses bidders were able to get their hands on included six Catherine Walker dresses, one of Princess Diana's favorite designers. One might wonder how these dresses can bring in such high bids after so many years, but Kerry Taylor insists they are classics as Princess Diana is still beloved by many.

"Diana was different," Taylor said. "She was very much a 'people's princess' and the ups and downs of her life, her loves, people followed them avidly. I think there will always be a special place in people's hearts for Diana."

And for the heft price tag, now Princess Diana's dresses can be in some lucky people's closets too.
