Penelope Cruz confirmed that she is having her second child with husband Javier Bardem.

According to the Associated Press, Cruz publicist Javier Giner said on Tuesday that the Spanish actress is pregnant. But he declined to give any further details, including when the baby is due.

The 38-year-old actress told Spanish TV station TVE that she is "tremendously happy and excited" that she and Bardem are expecting their second child, according to E! Online.

For this reason, Cruz will not be able to attend the Goya Awards in Spain on Feb. 17, which she nominated for Best Leading Actress, Daily Mail reported.

The pair already has a 2-year-old son, Leo, who was born in January 2011.

According to the Daily Mail, back in June 2011, Cruz told Vogue that motherhood is "a revolutionary experience. That's the best way I can describe it. It transforms you completely, in a second. 

"Nature is very wise and gives you nine months to prepare, but in that moment, when you see that face, you are transformed forever."

"From the first second, you feel so much love," Cruz added.

The report said that Cruz is determined to keep her kids out of the public eye despite her and 43-year-old Bardem's successful careers.

"I want my son and my kids - if I have more - to grow up in a way that is as anonymous as possible," Cruz explained. "The fact that his father and I have chosen to do the work we do doesn't give anybody the right to invade our privacy."

AP said that the couple met after appearing together in Woody Allen's 2008 film "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" and later married. According to Us magazine, Bardem and Cruz married at a friend's home in the Bahamas in mid-2010.
