Nicki Minaj's Hairstylist Quits Before Rapper's "American Idol" Debut

Remember when we said Nicki Minaj has been reverting to her classic pre-fame hairstyles? Well it turns out that nostalgia may not have been the reason behind the rapper's old school hairdos. The man behind Minaj's crazy and outrageous wigs, Terrence Davidson, has resigned from his wiggy duties, Necole Bitchie reports.

The famous hairstylist is no longer part of the rap diva's glam squad. Davidson and Minaj have reportedly parted ways due to creative differences. Maybe Minaj wanted leopard print bangs while Davidson had a vision for cheetah print pigtails?

Davidson's resignation couldn't have happened at a more inconvenient time; Minaj is set to make her "American Idol" debut next week (Jan. 16). What will she do without her iconic colorful wigs? Surely she can't repeat wig looks we've already seen. We imagine she would keep it fresh by sporting a new wild wig every episode. The "Starships" rapstress, who has reigned as the queen of hip hop for three strong years, made her way to fame with the help of her wild and fashionable wigs. Davidson definitely had a great impact on the rapper's brand and career.

Minaj's former hairstylist released a statement explaining the reason for his exit. Davidson hopes to expand his own brand and work in the fashion editorial scene. See his statement below:

"I would like to inform the media and supporters that I've decided to step away as hair stylist and wig creator for Nicki Minaj. It has been an amazing experience offering me a chance to express my creativity and exhibit my love for the art form of wig design. I have decided to part ways from Nicki Minaj because I would like to explore other opportunities within my own brand and re-energize my creativity through work in fashion editorial, beauty consultations, media personality, 'how-to' lectures and hair show development. I am very proud of the body of work built with Nicki Minaj and I appreciate the support over the years from fans who've expressed love for my craft. Look forward to seeing me larger than life in 2013"

Though we'll miss Davidson's awesome and creative hair artistry, we have to admit we are loving Minaj's new tamed look. During her "Idol" press tour, the star rocked some funky yet toned-down wigs. She is currently making statements with her ensembles (which are also noticeably toned down) rather than just her hair.

We understand Minaj wants really wants America to take her seriously on "Idol," especially after her co-judge Mariah Carey slammed her as being "inadequate." However, being serious doesn't have to mean be boring. We love the tamed Nicki Minaj but hopefully she won't do away with her famous quirky and colorful style all together.
