Hurricane Sandy's menace grounded over 16,000 flights across the Northeast and the globe, according to The Associated Press.

Four airports in the New York City area - JFK, LaGuardia, Teterboro and Newark Liberty International Airport - were all closed Monday night due to flooding, and remain shut down Tuesday.

Bridges and tunnels remain closed, except for the Lincoln Tunnel which connects Manhattan's midtown and Weekawken, New Jersey.

The Holland Tunnel, the George Washington, Goethals and Bayonne bridges and the Outerbridge Crossing are closed until further notice, according to a press release from The Port Authority.

PATH service, all public and private bus service, MTA subways and bus services are suspended until further notice.

Major carriers such as American Airlines, United and Delta cancelled all flights into and out of three area airports in New York, The Associated Press reported.
Nearly one-quarter of all U.S. flights travel to or from New York airports every day, and these cancellations can dramatically impact travel in other cities.

Hurricane Sandy crippled millions of New Yorker with power outages. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg estimates that power for some will not be recovered for another 2-3 days. He also estimates that MTA transit systems will not be fully operating for another 4-5 days. 

Hurricane Sandy made landfall over New Jersey Monday evening, killing at least 16 people in seven states, and cut power to over 6 million homes and businesses.
