Weeks after speculation that Beyonce Knowles would be dropping out of the highly anticipated remake "A Star is Born" due to conflicting political views between her and the film's director Clint Eastwood, it is confirmed that the entertainer has officially dropped the role.

It was only twenty-one months ago that it was first announced that Beyonce would headline Eastwood's film remake.  Though it isn't confirmed that Beyonce's decision was based on political differences, Variety reports that the singer was too busy for the filming schedule - albeit "A Star Is Born" didn't even have a start date.

The film held off production when Beyonce announced her pregnancy late 2011. The project has been further delayed because of the difficulty of casting a leading man. A slew of actors have been considered for the male lead role.  Russell Crowe, Christian Bale, Leonardo DiCaprio, and most recently Bradley Cooper were mentioned as possible leading men. Even Beyonce's hubby Jay-Z was considered for the role.

The upcoming "A Star is Born" will be the third installment in the history of the film's remake; it was produced three times previously. Barbara Streisand and Kris Kristofferson starred in the latest remake in 1976.

The film is a story of an aspiring young singer who falls in love with a fading super star who launches her career.  The leading man in Eastwood's version of "A Star is Born" includes some inspiration from the late Kurt Cobain. The film's writer, Will Fetters had this to say about the inspiration:

"That was like my Kennedy assassination when I was a teenager. When he died it was a huge horrible thing. So [as] I approached 'A Star is Born,' for me, the framework was 'All right, if Kurt Cobain never got to go Unplugged and survived and it's 20 years later and it's now, and he wanted to try to do that album with that understanding as this grunge icon. That'd be tough to get done if he was past his prime, no longer selling, how does he get that album?'"

Warner Bros. has not released a statement about Beyonce's withdrawal. There are now rumors that Eastwood is considering jazz singer Esperanza Spalding as a replacement.
