One of Hollywood’s most long-lasting marriages has shockingly come to an end. Actors Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman have called it quits after over 30 years together, DeVito’s rep confirmed to ABC News on Monday.

The couple is not said to be divorcing but they are separating. DeVito, 67, and Perlman, 64, were America’s funniest couple. They married in January 1982 and have three children together. The former couple met in 1970 when Perlman met DeVito at the Broadway play “The Shrinking Bride;” Perlman was attending the show and DeVito worked in production. The two were instantly smitten and moved in together after two weeks.

Perlman gushed about her then-new husband in a 1983 interview with People magazine. The actress said DeVito “was a lot more fun and a lot more sexy” than the other men she dated before him. DeVito swooned over his wife saying, “She was vibrant, with a great sense of humor, and real warm.”

2012 has been the year of shocking splits indeed. First Seal and Heidi Klum and now DeVito and Pearlman? Many have now lost hope in true love. Twitter users expressed their sorrow. In honor of the sad separation of the legendary comedy duo, fans engaged in joke laced condolences.
