Pop singer and X-Factor judge Demi Lovato graces the November issue of Teen Vogue for the second time. On the cover Lovato rocks a bright blue ombre braid with a white Guess blouse and floral Marc Jacobs skirt. The trendsetting star tones down her wild and experimental fashion style for the bohemian-inspired spread. Lovato works easy breezy ensembles from high-end designers like 3.1 Phillip Lim to high-street brands like TopShop.  In the soft tinted photos, Lovato exudes fresh simplicity with a touch of creativity. Her makeup is clean, her nails are dark plum, and the cross tattoo on her hand is on full display.  Lovato is featured in a pure form as she opens up about her "friend cleanse," success, and emotional recovery.

After checking into rehab for an eating disorder, cutting, bipolar disorder in late October 2010, Lovato returned in early 2011 feeling stronger and wiser about who her real friends were.  "I did kind of a friend cleanse right after rehab, where I weeded out people who didn't have my best interests at heart," Lovato tells the magazine. "Now I have friends who love me for who I am and don't care about what I'm doing. Most of them aren't in the industry." Back in her Self interview, Lovato confessed that she and former BFF Selena Gomez are no longer close. "Selena [right] and I aren't as close as we used to be, but she'll always have a place in my heart," she said.  Lovato's new friends are low-key and she claims "Some of them don't even know my songs!"

She may not be into having famous friends, but Lovato has no problem dating a well-known face. The starlet is currently linked to One Direction's Niall Horan. "He's a really awesome, sweet guy. But he's not my boyfriend," Lovato confirms. She says her reason for being single is because she wants to be. "I'm in a place right now where I really need to focus on myself," she says. "Obviously, I'm still going to like people-or love them-but [...] I need to be okay with being alone, first."

Lovato says she is "really happy right now." She tells the magazine, "I never thought it was possible to be happy because of how depressed I was my entire life. But I feel so incredible. It's like I'm living in a dream." To maintain her recovery she makes sure to "sleep, eat right, exercise, and meditate." "I know that I can't miss my therapy appointments or things will get a little rocky, so I always put my recovery first," she says.

Since her recovery, Lovato has gained an immense amount of success. She is currently a judge on "The X-Factor." "Right before I got the [X-Factor] offer, I'd been sitting in a meeting feeling really discouraged [about my career], wishing I was further along... and then [Simon Cowell] called, literally, a week and a half later."

Although she's only 20 years old, the X-Factor judge believes she can offer great advice to the contestants. "I'm going to help them mentally prepare for everything that's coming-like, all these things that have happened to me recently, I really attribute them, in part, to the work that I've been doing on myself," she says.

The stylish starlet will remain super busy as she is also working on her music career. Lovato is tired of trendy music like dubstep and says she wants to make "something that people will listen to for a while." She highlights influential musicians like Adele and Taylor Swift for their impactful and emotionally connected music. She doesn't want to make an all-ballad album but she does want to show some maturity in her music. "I feel like I've grown as a person, and I want my music to grow with me."
