Fashion giant Tom Ford became a dad at the age of 51 welcoming a healthy baby boy with his longtime partner and journalist Richard Buckley.

Tom Ford has become a dad for the first time at the age of 51 as he and his partner and journalist Richard Buckley welcome a baby boy into their family. Love Magazine broke the news on Friday via twitter.com.

The tweet read: "Tom Ford and Richard Buckley are proud to announce the birth of their son Alexander John Buckley Ford... Born in Los Angeles... September 23rd, 2012″. No further details about the child has been revealed.

Ford, arguably one of the best designers of current times, says that even he is doubtful of himself and his work and this is one of the main motives that keeps him going and gives him the will to do better work.

Earlier this year, in a Q&A session in London, the designer said, ""Of course I doubt myself. Constantly. In fashion you have to doubt yourself right up to the last minute. Even if you've finished a collection and it's the night before you're going to show it and you realize 'Oh that's so wrong,' you have to throw it out, you have to get rid of it, you have to destroy it. So you're constantly doubting yourself. You constantly have to question yourself."

However, even though he is choosy and very careful about his work, Ford feels this still doesn't keep away the bad reviews which according to him is part of the whole game.  He says, "Often, a bad review is right, and those hurt in a different way because you know in your heart what you're reading is right. You're quite raw because they come out the day or two days after what you've done when you haven't been able to recover from it. You're exhausted and you can't really see what you've created because you're too close to it."
