Demi Lovato and One Direction’s Niall Horan are apparently just friends, despite rumors surrounding the duo’s possible romance.

The rumors should be put to rest now that both Lovato and Horan have shot down the dating rumors.

The “X Factor” star and the “What Makes You Beautiful” hit maker have been surrounded by the buzz all summer, but both are currently too focused on their career to engage in any romantic relationship.

"There is nothing going on. Niall's my friend," Demi Lovato told E! News.

"I'm really happy for One Direction and the success that they've had. It just goes to show you how crazy this competition is to making stars and the success that they have. He's a good friend of mine."

"There's actually nothing that a guy can do to change my mind right now. It doesn't matter how frickin' good-looking you are, or funny, or how in love with them I am. Right now, there's nobody more important to me than myself and my recovery,” the 20-year-old starlet told iVillage in a recent interview.

"I try to go and see my friends but that's easier to do than go out with a girlfriend. I couldn't be bothered, and it's pure laziness on my part," Horan told The Daily Mirror.

"Traveling around the world and all the promo that we do — it doesn't leave time for a girlfriend. It really doesn't. Demi is really cool and we're really good friends."

Niall Horan’s obsession now is rather his budding friendship with stars like Justin Bieber.

"Every day I wake up and think is this all a dream. It's just impossible to believe I've become good friends with some stars like Justin Bieber. I would call Justin a friend, someone I hang out with," Horan told The Daily Mirror.

"It's really weird. I was on Skype to my friend the other night and Justin was with me. My friends were loving it."

The rumor mills, however, may not stop churning, just yet.  

“X Factor” judge Simon Cowell pressed Demi Lovato on her relationship with Horan, even asking her whether they had kissed.

"By the way, Niall says 'Hi'," Demi told Cowell during a backstage chat that aired during the “X Factor” season premiere on Wednesday, MTV reports.

"Oh, from One Direction? Keep away from him. He's pure. OK?" Cowell warned Lovato, drawing an “Excuse me!?” from the starlet, who seemed both amused and offended.

"I'm not looking for anything. I'm not going to date anybody for a whole year," Lovato said.

"And I made that clear to him,” Lovato said suggestively, leaving Cowell suspicious.

"Have you kissed him?" he asked her, who could not help but giggle all throughout the rest of the conversation.

“Simon, no!” Lovato assured, but Cowell didn’t give in, adding, “Look at me, why are you smiling?”

“A weird question,” said Lovato, walking away from Cowell muttering, "Oh my god!”

From Demi Lovato’s reaction, there seem to be still chances for the much-rumored duo to explore their relationship.

Horan may want to get some advice from Justin Bieber, who manages his romance with Selena Gomez amidst their busy schedule.
