Tom Cruise who? Katie Holmes shows the world (the fashion world at least) that she can stand on her own. The celebrity designer debuted her spring 2013 collection from her clothing line, Holmes & Yang - a line she created with her stylist friend Jeanne Yang - in a low-key presentation at the Box in Lincoln Center on Wednesday.
Holmes & Yang's PR team forewarned media crashers from attempting to attend the presentation, but that didn't stop the viral tool that we all know as Twitter. The "exclusive" collection was seen by millions within seconds. The warning statement released the day before the show read: "Please note that tomorrow's Holmes & Yang presentation is CLOSED to all media, unless you have already been approved by their team. No media will be allowed to enter the venue, unless you have a direct invitation from the Holmes & Yang PR team."
Holmes looked radiant and was in high spirits. She mingled with the guests, shook hands, and spoke about her collection. She is really serious about her brand. The celebrity was spotted actually dressing the models and making final alterations. An insider told Hollywood Gossip, ""This is a big deal for Katie to show in the tents, under the full attention of the fashion editors and the glare of the media scrutiny. They could have done a small show elsewhere, so this proves she and Jeanne are very serious about their business."
Models donned a full face of makeup provided by celebrity makeup artist Bobbi Brown; Holmes recently signed to the cosmetics line as the first-ever celebrity face for the brand.
Fashion's elite seem to be impressed by the rising designer. "It all looks very much like Katie," tweeted New York Times's fashion writer Eric Wilson. "An elegant Katie Holmes showed us her Holmes & Yang line today. Chic separates and covetable bags," Harper Bazaar's executive fashion and beauty editor Avril Graham tweeted. Preppy wardrobe essentials like straight leg pants, fitted trenches, and day dresses were perfect uptown chic. The collection was very New York.
Holmes made her debut wearing black slacks, a white blouse, leather jacket, yellow heels, and a gold necklace.
Holmes and her stylist, Yang, launched their brand in 2008 and have been selling in Barney's ever since. Wednesday marked the day of their first-ever fashion week presentation.

Given the risks that “Elementary” has been taking with the Sherlock Holmes mythology, converting not one but two main characters from men into women, it seems surprising that they chose to keep Sherlock British.
