Phillip Lim 's spring 2013 is a mix-up of all sorts. The designer explored the art of mix-match to its highest form. Lim is one to take unconventional elements and create something realistic yet still intriguing. The eclectic pairings and prints hail back to the '90s effortless style. 3.1 Phillip Lim puts its own spin on "cut it up" - a Dada literary technique later made known by William Burroughs and then taken over by music stars like David Bowie, Kurt Cobain, and Radiohead.
Chic meets grunge meets quirky. There was plenty "Blossom" -esque floral prints as well as plaid. Continuing on this '90s trip, Lim incorporates a warped version of patchwork. Plaids and florals were paired together in geometric and separated patchwork placements. There was some modernity, of course, with the help of sheer panels and leopard print sleeves.
This was a very laid-back collection. No waist definition or skin tight ensembles. This spring season is all about "cool chic." Slouchy pants, loose layered tops, shapeless dresses, and floral printed overalls were the highlights of the runway. The styling included plaid button-downs wrapped around the waist (remember those days?), cardigan sweaters over graphic tees, and oversized jackets with anything - cue the theme song from "Clarissa Explains it All" and a scene from "My So-Called Life".
