GoDaddy went down Monday, causing internet blackout for millions of users, who are unable to access GoDaddy hosted email accounts, phone service, and all the sites using GoDaddy’s DNS service.

The domain registrar and web hosting company suffered massive outages Monday afternoon, taking down millions of websites altogether.

"Status Alert: Hey, all. We're aware of the trouble people are having with our site. We're working on it,” GoDaddy said on Twitter early afternoon.

The main page of GoDaddy was also shut down for a short time.

“We are experiencing problems. We understand this is impacting some customers and we take this situation very seriously. Everyone at GoDaddy.com is working to restore all sites affected by this outage as soon as possible,” the site stated.

A member of hacktivist Anonymous, by the name of AnonymousOwn3r, has claimed sole responsibility for GoDaddy outage.

The attack “was only me not the Anonymous Collective,” @AnonymousOwn3r said on Twitter, where he claimed to be a security leader of Anonymous.

“I will keep the attack to godaddy soon u guys can acess,” he hinted more future attacks.

"#TangoDown - godaddy.com," tweeted @AnonOpsLegion, praising the hacker who took down GoDaddy.

"By using / supporting Godaddy, you are supporting censorship of the Internet," @AnonOpsLegion said.

GoDaddy previously supported the controversial Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect IP Act (PIPA), and received backlash from online activists.

However, the attacker brushed off speculations suggesting SOPA as the reason for the hack.

"I'm not anti go daddy, you guys will [understand] because i did this attack [sic]," @AnonymousOwn3r tweeted.

"I'm taking godaddy down [because] well i'd like to test how the cyber security is safe and for more reasons that i can not talk now."

GoDaddy, which boasts more than 53 million registered domain names, has yet to confirm the cause of the outage.

Around 7:30 p.m. (EDT) Monday, GoDaddy took it to Twitter, announcing that the company was “still working” on the issues, and finally “getting closer to normal.”
