Faith Hedgepeth, a 19-year-old student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, was found dead at home Friday morning.
Friends found the body of Faith Danielle Hedgepeth in her apartment around 11 a.m. Friday.
Police are investigating Hedgepeth’s death, which they believe was not a random act. As of Saturday afternoon, the cause of death had not been determined. More information may be released Saturday night, according to Chapel Hill Police, The Herald Sun reported.
The incident is currently treated as a homicide, according to ABC News.
"From what I knew of her [Faith Hedgepeth], she was the sweetest person in the world," said Takoy Jones, whose ex-girlfriend lived with the victim, according to ABC News.
"If you needed her and she could do it, she was there."
“She was a beautiful, sweet, loving, caring person,” said Amy Locklear Hertel, director of the American Indian Center.
“She gave hugs all of the time. She wanted to connect with people. She was determined to be a Tar Heel and did well in school to make that dream come true.”
Hedgepeth was a junior Biology major from Warrenton, who wanted to become a medical doctor.
"I am sorry to let you know of the sudden death of one of our students... law enforcement officials do not believe that there is danger to other students, faculty or staff,” UNC Chancellor Holden Thorp said in an email alert to the whole campus.
“In this time of grief, our thoughts are with Faith’s family and all the people whose lives she touched here on campus.”
“The investigation is ongoing and further information regarding this incident will be released as the investigation progresses,” Mayor Mark Kleinschmidt said in a statement
