Rihanna opened the MTV Video Music Awards Thursday night with stunning performances, and debuted a new lock.

The pop singer graced the VMA red carpet in a white cut-out dress that showed off her sexy back, and her hair was sleeker than ever.

Rihanna looked glamorous in her new do and sexy dress, reminiscent of Halle Berry in the 2000s.

As the kick starter of the MTV VMAs 2012, Rihanna performed her latest single “Cockiness (Love It)” with A$AP Rocky and a legion of dancers, and then rocked her hit “We Found Love” with Calvin Harris.

Rihanna donned a sexy sheer red outfit, and showed off some erotic dance – she even groped herself.
Rihanna’s ex-boyfriend Chris Brown was in the audience.

The 24-year-old singer is nominated for five VMAs this year, including video f the year and best female video.

Rihanna and Chris Brown were recently rumored for a duet during the MTV VMA’s, but the dream didn’t come true.

The duo was allegedly going to perform their collaborative song "Cake," according to All Hiphop.
"[The producers] like the ratings that [a Chris-Rihanna duel] would bring, but there could be some backlash too. . . There isn't much choice since Rihanna is insisting that he perform with her," the insider said.

A source close to Rihanna told The Hollywood Life that Rihanna would do anything to get closer to Chris Brown.
"That's obvious. Hell yeah, she would. [There isn't anything] she wouldn't do for [him]," the source said. "She'd do just about anything for him.''

Though the reunion wasn’t realize this time around, Rihanna probably grabbed more than enough attention with her super short hair and ecstatic performance.
