Rihanna seems to be unable to peel her heart away from Chris Brown.

The 24-year-old pop star is requesting that the 23-year-old Grammy Award-winning rapper would hit the stage together at the upcoming MTV VMAs.

Rihanna demanded to have Brown perform with her, a source working with the VMAs told MediaTakeOut.

The duo is rumored to be performing their collaborative song "Cake," according to All Hiphop.

"[The producers] like the ratings that [a Chris-Rihanna duel] would bring, but there could be some backlash too. . . There isn't much choice since Rihanna is insisting that he perform with her," the insider said.

A source close to Rihanna told The Hollywood Life that Rihanna would do anything to get closer to Chris Brown.

"That's obvious. Hell yeah, she would. [There isn't anything] she wouldn't do for [him]," the source said. "She'd do just about anything for him.''

Rihanna's estranged boyfriend too is said to be up for the reunion.

"Why wouldn't he," the source close to Brown told Hollywood Life. "It would be the first time in a long…time that he would be on stage with his boo."

Another report by RumorFix surfaced to claim that Brown will not be performing at the MTV VMAs to begin with.

"He's not attending due to another commitment," a rep of Chris Brown told the site. "Nothing more. No story here."

Brown notoriously assaulted Rihanna just before the Grammy's in 2009, resulting in the couple's separation.
The R&B singer pleaded guilty to a felony assault charge and was sentenced to community service, five-year probation and domestic violence counseling.

In a recent interview with Oprah Winfrey on "Oprah's Next Chapter," Rihanna described the infamous incident as "humiliating" and "hurtful," but emphasized her love for Brown that has not died.

"He was the love of my life. The first love," Rihanna said. "No one could feel that more than me. Nobody felt what I felt. It happened to me in front of the world."

"I lost my best friend. Everything I knew switched. Switched in a night. I couldn't control that," she said. "As angry as I was, as angry, hurt and betrayed I just felt like he made that mistake because he needed help. Everybody's gonna say he's a monster without looking at the source. Who's gonna help him?"

Rihanna went onto say that once the restraining order was lifted in February, she and Brown began building up their friendship "little by little."

"We've been working on our friendship again. Now we are very very close friends, we built a trust again," the 24-year-old singer said. "We love each other and we probably always will and that is not anything that we are going to try to change. That is not something you can shut off if you are ever in love."

Rihanna said that she could forgive Brown by finding the way to forgive her own father for abusing her mother.

"I have to forgive him, because I cared about him still," she said. "The minute I let go of that, I started living again."

The superstar duo are not getting back together, Rihanna assured, saying that she is single and he is in a relationship with someone else.

That does not change anything about her care for Brown.

"And the main thing for me is that he is at peace. I'm not at peace if he is unhappy or he is still lonely. I care. It actually matters that he finds peace."
