London 2012 Olympic Closing Ceremony: Spice Girls and Supermodels Glam Up the Extravaganza

London 2012 Olympic has drawn to a close with a surreal closing ceremony, featuring musical extravaganza and exhibition of sportsmanship of the 10,000 athletes who participated in one of the most successful Olympics event ever.

The Olympics closing ceremony on Sunday concluded the 17-day global event, throwing a huge party as the audience of 80,000 and 10,000 athletes from the 204 nations gathered in the Olympic Stadium celebrated the success of the London 2012 Olympics, and its role in fostering harmony and friendship in the international community.

Supermodels Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss also took part in the glorious ceremony, strutting down the huge catwalk in shimmering gold Alexander McQueen dresses.

The Closing Ceremony also featured “A Symphony of British Music,” celebrating Britain's music scenes over the last 50 years, including the biggest names of British pop including the Spice Girls, George Michael, Elbow, Madness, Queen, Take That and Annie Lennox

The much-anticipated reunion of the Spice Girls was the highlight of the closing ceremony, as the 90s girls band sang their hit songs Spice Up Your Life and Wannabe. On top of London taxis, the Spice Girls members Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell, Mel B, Emma Bunton and Mel glammed up the closing ceremony with their one-off performance.

As the closing ceremony drew close to its end, the Olympic flag was handed off to the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, for the upcoming summer Olympics in 2016. As the Brazilian national anthem was played, the stadium turned into the green and yellow colors of Brazil. The handover then followed by a celebration of cultures, music and dance.

The London 2012 Olympics concluded with the US topping the final medal table with 46 gold medals and 104 total medals.
Despite its initial lead in the medal count, China ended with 38 gold medals and 87 total medals.
The host country Great Britain came third with 29 gold medals and 65 total medals.

Overall, 44 world records have been set and 117 Olympic records broken during the London 2012 Olympics.
