A dime has sold for $1.6 million at auction, dropping jaws and creating some buzz online, with many looking for answers from the buyer and bidders as to what makes this particular dime worthy.
An anonymous bidder won a dime made in 1873 for a staggering $1.6 million at an American Numismatic Association convention, according to Chris Napolitano, president of Stack's Bowers Galleries.
The final price reaches $1.84 million, with an additional 15 per cent fee.
The 1873-CC "No Arrows" Liberty Seated dime is part of the Battle Born Collection, which contained one of every coin struck in Carson City, Nev., before the mint there closed in 1893, according to The Associated Press.

According to the description on The Coinologist, the dime that sold for $1.6 million is "graded MS-65 by PCGS and bearing the Eliasberg pedigree."
"It is the only specimen known to exist, which makes it highly coveted among collectors of Carson City Mint coinage and especially those seeking to complete their own set. This much sought-after dime was purchased in 2004 for $891,250 from a Bowers and Merena auction by Rusty Goe, chief architect of the Battle Born Collection for the last 11 years, who later sold it into the Battle Born Collection, thus completing the set," the website stated.
"Generally speaking, in the coin auction business, you might get a couple of people fighting each other," Napolitano said on Friday, reported AP.
"On this one, we had four or five buyers over a million dollars. We had a fair amount of buyers pursuing it."
