Ryan Lochte's sister garnered media attention after she was mistaken as his girlfriend.

TMZ initially described her as a mystery woman, and reported their intimacy in the following manner;

"But they didn't leave empty-handed -- they piled into a cab with several, very excited females ... one of whom sat on Lochte's lap, placing her fun bags a mere nuzzling distance away from his face," TMZ states.

"In one snap, Lochte appeared slightly disoriented as a redheaded woman climbed on his lap in the back of a taxicab," E! Online goes.

Buzzfeed then pointed out that the lady on Lochte's lap was his the 31-year-old sister Megan.

Lochte's sister is also a swimmer, who has worked in the marketing and advertising industry, according to her profile on Linkedin.

Social media sites like Facebook and Twitter went ablaze following the awkward discovery.

"That awkward moment when the media confuses @ryanlochte'ssister for his mystery woman. #fail" Olivia Morris tweeted.

"Uh, Ryan Lochte, your sister sitting on your lap is seriously NOT normal, and quite disturbing. You are messed up in the head," said Darren Fisher.

"I wonder how relieved @BrookeBennett is that @ryanlochte 's mystery girl was just his sister. Still hope for the greatest swim couple ever!" The Diacos said in a tweet.

In the London Olympics, Ryan Lochte won gold in the 400-meter individual medley, beating Michael Phelps.

In the realm of romance, Lochte isn't sparkling sweet rumors yet, unlike Phelps, whose "mystery woman" turned out be his actual girlfriend.
The superstar swimmer's model girlfriend Megan Rossee has been actively tweeting her relationship with Phelps, tweeting off a photo of her clinging to medal-crazed Phelps.
