Victoria Beckham is lengthening her fashion credentials. The posh celebrity designer is now preparing an eyewear line.
Beckham, who is near-sighted herself, has always had issues finding the perfect prescription frames. So much so that the camera-loving star has even avoided being photographed in her prescribed lenses because of how unflattering they looked - sunglasses are apparently the only frames that do her justice. So now, the British star is taking matters into her own hands.
"I do need to wear glasses - [but] I haven't found glasses that suit me or that I particularly like," Beckham told WWD. "I've always been quite self-conscious [about this], so that's why I've decided to do them myself."
Beckham knows her frames. The designer launched a sunglasses line in 2010; it only makes sense to continue the brand with an optical line. Her eyewear collection can be found in Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus in the U.S. and Harrods in the U.K.
Cutler & Gross will be helping Beckham produce the six-piece optical collection which is set to debut at Silmo Paris on October 4. Each pair of glasses will come in three colorways, with a palette consisting of black, tortoise, topaz, yellow and forest green. The chic frames are handcrafted in Italy and created from metal and acetate. A diamond faceted "V" will adorn each tip, marking it the signature Victoria Beckham original. WWD reports that the frames will also contain elements such as sepia stained coloring, horn, pearl oyster interior lining and tortoiseshell.
It wouldn't be a Victoria Beckham line if it didn't exude style. Beckham perfects every detail even the shape. Silhouettes for the frames range from traditional delicate and feminine styles to edgy superlight metal aviators to heavier acetate rectangular shapes. The line also features some unisex styles like the "Heavy Square," a bold frame that both Beckham and her husband David Beckham wear.
The glasses will retail for about $410 each. A pair goes through four weeks of production and 37 assembly processes. The optical frames will hit stores early next year.
Beckham proves the saying "If you want something done right, do it yourself." The style icon can now look great without sacrificing clear vision. "I will be wearing my glasses now, and it will be nice to see where I will be going for once," Beckham said.© 2013 Fashion & Style.com All rights reserved. Do not reproduce without permission.
