Phelps, showing no signs of complacency after breaking every imaginable record in Olympic swimming, won the men's 100 metres butterfly gold medal at the London Games on Friday. On the eve of his retirement, he provided an unforgettable reminder of his incredible talent and determination when he came from seventh at the turn to overpower his rivals and win in a time of 51.21 seconds. Swimming Superstar Michale Phelps completed his last race in the Olpmpics in style winning a gold medal.

As true as the truth can be, there's no one as good as Michael Phelps when it comes to swimming. The star wrapped up his olympic career is high spirits winning a gold medal in his last race.

"I'm just happy that the last one was a win," Phelps said. "That's all I really wanted coming into the night." He claimed his third gold of the London Games and 17th of his career, adding to an already absurd record total (21 medals) that should be twice as much as any other swimmer by the time he swims the final race of his career, the 4x100 medley relay Saturday night.

The Americans are huge favorites in a race they have never lost, and it's unfathomable to think the Phelps era could end with anything less than a performance that puts him atop the podium one last time.

"He's the king of the Olympics Games," said his butterfly rival, Serbia's Milorad Cavic.

Phelps touched in 51.21 seconds to beat out the guy who edged him in the 200 fly, Chad le Clos. The South African touched in 51.44, tying for silver with Russia's Evgeny Korotyshkin. Cavic tied for fourth in 51.81, not even close to Phelps in their final meeting.

"I cannot be compared to Michael Phelps," said Cavic, who also plans to retire after the London Games. "I'm a one-trick pony."

USA Today reported on August 2 that Michael Phelps is the first Olympian to win 20 Olympic medals in his career and first to win 16 gold, breaking his own lifetime totals. He has the chance to win two more medals in Friday's 100 butterfly and Saturday's 4 x 100 medley relay.

"Phelps led wire to wire, even picking up time in the backstroke, Lochte's favorite stroke. Phelps held off a surging Lochte on the freestyle leg, winning in 1:54.32 to Lochte's 1:54.90," USA reports.

The Individual Medley results here were the same as at the Olympic trials, Lochte winning the 400 and Phelps the 200, but at the time it was super close - Phelps won the 200 by just .09.

"You can guarantee that we're going to race each other, and we're going to race each other hard," Phelps said Thursday morning. "It could be one of the races, like at trials, where it comes down to the touch."
