The September issue is the most highly anticipated issue of all fashion magazines. Publications do their very best to wow readers with their cover girl/guy, their editorials, or even just the amount of page numbers. You would think O Magazine couldn't surprise us, as they've had the same cover girl since its first issue. However, this issue Oprah gives her readers a special treat. The mogul is featured on the cover proudly sporting her natural curls.

For the first time ever, Oprah appears on the cover without blow-drying or straightening her hair. The talk show host usually wears her hair curly on weekends and on vacation -- it makes her feel free and most creative.

Despite how beautiful her voluminous locks are, Oprah once considered cutting it all off. "I wanted to wear it close-cropped a la Camille Cosby but her husband Bill convinced me otherwise. 'Don't do it,' he said. 'You've got the wrong head shape and you'll disappoint yourself.' I took his advice," she explained. Although she didn't go through with the major chop, Oprah believes in keeping an updated look and experimenting with hairstyles. She believes that a hairstyle can affect the perception of oneself. "I even notice a change in my dogs when they get their summer cuts: they're friskier and livelier, feeling more themselves once the weight of the hair is released," Oprah said.

Oprah is indeed a makeover expert; she's done them in her magazine and on her television shows. It's not just simply walking out in a different style dress or getting a daring pair of shoes. She stands firm that the only makeovers that actually maintain are "those in which something inside the receiver clicks, aligning with that which is being received. The only way to real transformation is through the mind."

The mag's issue is sure to be a hit since "going natural" is a major trend among African American women. However, there are many skeptics about how natural Oprah's hair really is. Fashionista points out the many women who claim Oprah is faking the natural do and other women who claim she's only doing this cover for her network ratings. Regardless the motive or her actual hair texture, the issue is filled with positive self-image topics and inspirational advice.

O's September 2012 makeover issue hits newsstands August 7th.
