Even though the judges may have found some points to deduct, Maroney's Amanars with its jaw-dropping height and perfect landing sure deserves to be called the greatest vault performance in the Olympic history.
Evidently, the judges' jaws were dropping, though the American gymnast did not receive the perfect score:

Called Amanars, the 2.5-twisting Yurchenko is viewed as "the most difficult and dangerous vaults in the world," according to Bleacher Report.
"It consists of a round-off onto the board, then a back handspring onto the table and 2.5 twisting somersaults before the landing. Its start value is a 6.5, which is more than .5 points better than the other gymnasts."
The 16-year-old Maroney's perfect vault performance scored her 16.233, which marks the highest score of the entire women's competition at this year's Olympic Games, according to NBC.
McKayla Maroney's outstanding vault performance gave lead to Team USA, crowning the women's gymnastics team with gold medal in all-around competition. For the U.S. team, it is the first time in 16 years to win gold, and the very second time in the entire Olympic history, following the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
The Americans finished their winning game with 183.596 points, leaving not even a slight chance for Russia (178.530) and Romania (176.414).
“To look up and see we won by five points, that was kind of amazing,’’ team member Aly Raisman said.
"It's the best team of all time," U.S. gymnastics coach John Geddert boasted.
