Nelson Mandela officially debuted his clothing line 466/64 Fashion in the U.S. on Wednesday, which coincides with his 94th birthday.
The launch of 466/64, which is pronounced “four, double six, six four,” was kicked off with a fashion show and press conference held Wednesday afternoon at the South African Consulate in New York City.

The runway was graced by a colorful collection of men's and women's wear, with lots of bold hues and prints.
"As a young South African, I can wear a brand that makes me proud to show where I’m coming from,” said South African singer Lira.
Lira and international model Sam Sarong are the faces of the brand.
The brand title represents Mandela’s prisoner number, #466, and year of imprisonment on Robben Island, 1964.
Part of 466/65 Fashion's profits will be set aside for community projects in Africa.
Its global expansion is expected to boost South Africa’s economy and create more local textile jobs.
The collection is now available online and at specialty boutiques around South Africa.
It is set to be presented at New York Fashion Week in September and hit department stores in 2013 spring.
