Google's first female engineer Marissa Mayer is now the new CEO of Yahoo and will begin working in her new position from today.
Internet giants Yahoo have appointed their fifth CEO in five years and this time it's none other than Google's first female engineer Marissa Mayer. "When she wanted to come up with the perfect cupcake she came up with a spreadsheet of ingredients to figure out the perfect recipe," said Search Engine Land editor-in-chief Danny Sullivan.

"She took the same approach to launching products at Google," he continued. "She would say they tested it every way they could imagine to get it right."
Yahoo has been facing quite a struggle in recent times and Sullivan hopes that Mayer puts her proven approach to work as the new chief officer of Yahoo, which has struggled to reinvent itself after being trounced by Google in the online search arena.
"I'm surprised and impressed," says Yarmis, an analyst at HfS Research who thinks Mayer's hiring could aid in recruiting efforts. "Yahoo has been able to attract someone of the highest caliber here, someone who understands the business. This is really the first thing out of Yahoo in a decade that you can't snicker at. She's the kind of person you didn't think Yahoo could get."
Mayer is excited about her new position and looks forward to taking the company to new heights. "I am honored and delighted to lead Yahoo, one of the internet's premier destinations for more than 700 million users," Mayer said in a statement. "I look forward to working with the company's dedicated employees to bring innovative products, content, and personalized experiences to users and advertisers all around the world."
Google too says they are definitely going to miss Mayer and the hard work she has put in for the company. "Since arriving at Google just over 13 years ago as employee Number 20, Marissa has been a tireless champion of our users," said Google co-founder Larry Page. "She contributed to the development of our Search, Geo, and Local products. We will miss her talents at Google."
