Rihanna and Gran Gran Dolly

Chris Brown and Rihanna's relationship may seem like a never-ending drama, especially since the brawl between Drake and Brown concerning an affair with the songstress. But in serious times, it is natural for one to take the high road and show sympathy. Rihanna's grandmother lost her battle with cancer early this morning (July 1); Brown and his family have reached out to his once-love sending heartfelt regards.

Rihanna has always displayed her love for family, especially her late grandmother Ciara "Dolly" Brathwaite, whom she lovingly calls "Gran Gran Dolly". When the singer announced her tragic loss, she took to her Instagram to post several photos of her grandmother. The sad news went viral with each post that had the hashtag #grangrandolly.

Fans flooded Rihanna's Twitter feed with condolences; two tweets in particular, were truly meaningful. Chris Brown and his mother publicly reached out to the mourning starlet via Twitter. Brown's mother, Joyce Hawkins, tweeted, "@rihanna ANGEL MAY GOD BE WITH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY IN YOUR TIME OF SORROW. LOVE YOU ANGEL," to which Rihanna replied, "Thank you! Love u mama."

Chris Brown did not "@" the popstar but he did tweet, "Praying for family and the lost loved one. She was like my grandmother. Love you GRAN GRAN! RIP"

According to MTV, the Bajan pop princess seemed to have a bad feeling before her grandmother's passing. The songstress was reportedly not at her best during her performance at Sweden's Peace & Love music festival. MTV reports:

"The "We Found Love" singer had just come off a performance at Sweden's Peace & Love music festival, where she added her melancholy cover of Bob Marley's "Redemption Song" to the set. But some concertgoers grew frustrated with Rih's show, according to reports, after the singer turned up late and seemed shaky at times. Post-show, though, it seems the death of the family matriarch, reportedly from cancer, may have hampered Rihanna's stage show."

Rihanna is scheduled to attend Sunday night's 2012 BET Awards; there's no word on whether or not she will still be going.

The singer has been tweeting about her loss since this morning. She said goodbye to her dear grandmother with this tweet,

"Goodbye #grangranDOLLY get your beauty rest until I see you"
