'Once Upon a Time' Casting Rumors, Leighton Meester Playing Elsa in Season 4 'Frozen' Tribute? Will Disney Character Get Evil Twist in New Season?

Although "Once Upon a Time" co-creator Adam Horowitz recently revealed that he planned to "honor" the Disney hit movie "Frozen" in the upcoming season of the ABC series, fans shouldn't expect the show to stay on the same track as the film.

During the season three finale, "Frozen" character Elsa was revealed in Storybrooke, and while much about her back story isn't known just yet, the biggest thing everyone's wondering is whether or not the character will be portrayed as good or evil?

"Maybe yes, maybe no," Horowitz dished to TVLine about the character. "One can be in a snit for many reasons."

There's too many theories to take when it comes to Elsa's introduction to OUAT. When viewers first realized it was her locked in Rumpelstiltskin's barn the biggest concern was how on Earth did she get there, and if we had to guess we'd say that either her villainous ways landed her as Rumpel's captive or she's the good girl in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"You know, there's a back story to how she appeared in Rumpel's vault, and what she's up to now when she's walking out of that farmhouse that we'll get into very quickly, most likely in the premiere," Horowitz said of the character after she was first revealed in the season three finale. "And in doing so, we very much want to honor what came in the movie. We're not trying to redefine the character; what we're trying to do is take this beloved character and fir her into our world."

While we still have quite some time before we learn who Elsa truly is on season four of OUAT, at least we know some of her Disney counterparts will be joining in for whatever craziness comes her way in Storybrooke.

As we previously reported, the producer also hinted that Anna would be a member of the OUAT cast come next fall.

"Casting for #OnceUponATime Season 4!" Horowitz tweeted. "Hard at work! Hope to see ya this fall!"

Without giving any clues as to who he was considering for the part, or any sneak peeks into the set, Horowitz also posted a behind-the-scenes poster proving that Anna would be joining Elsa when OUAT returns

In the Disney movie, Anna was Elsa's younger sister, the Princess of Arendelle, who was accidentally cast into "eternal winter." After making the horrid mistake of sending her sister away, Elsa exiles herself from the kingdom and Anna and her friends are later forced with the task having to save the land and eventually reunite with Elsa and the rest of her family.

Horowitz and his co-creator Edward Kitsis have yet to reveal which actress will be playing the role of Elsa, but that hasn't stopped the Twitterverse from guessing and apparently "Gossip Girl" alum Leighton Meester seems to be a fan favorite for the role, InternationalBusinessTimes reported.

Granted Meester would have to go back to her natural blond hair as opposed to the long brunette locks we've grown accustomed to seeing her wear, but we can't say we disagree with seeing her play the role of Elsa whether she turns out to be incredibly wicked or wonderful.

Who do you want to see play Elsa when "Once Upon a Time" returns with season four? Tell us!
