Nicole Richie's fashion empire just keeps growing. The businesswoman readies her first fragrance, Nicole. Richie's fragrance venture came about after meeting TPR Holdings LLC's chief Brian Thomas; naturally the fragrance will be produced by TPR. The scent of the perfume is inspired by Richie's childhood memory of her mother layering her own fragrances with oils and lotions. "I have a very traditional Southern mom - you never left the house without lotion. [...] Over her lotion went oil and perfume - she was very put together from head to toe. It wasn't just a one-dimensional smell - there were many different layers." she tells WWD.

The Fashion Star judge hints that vanilla, amber and cashmere woods are among some of the notes you can expect from her future fragrances. So what will Nicole smell like? It is said to "open with notes of succulent blackberry and Seville orange, has a heart of golden amber, Moroccan rose, lily of the valley and papyrus, and a drydown of sensual cashmere woods, sandalwood, sugared patchouli and vanilla absolute." Steve DeMercado of Fragrance Resources helped Richie put the fragrance together.
The Nicole bottle is Art Deco-inspired. "I'm very particular in the way that I create. We're in an interesting time right now where women aren't just one thing - there are many different parts to a woman. So I wanted to create a very intricate bottle that was still elegant, but not so in-your-face girly at the same time."

The perfume is available in 1.7oz for $55 and 3.4oz for $69. Perfume can be accompanied with a 6.7oz body lotion, $35, and a 6.7oz bath gel, $28. The fragrance will be sold in 2,000 department and specialty stores in the U.S. and international markets including the U.K. and Australia. Richie plans to launch a second fragrance next year in August.
