The 2012 MuchMusic Video Awards was a colorful event with celebrities attending the event in bright and bold hues

Award ceremonies always tend to bring out the best in celebrities as they attend the event dressed in their best getup. This year's MuchMusic Video Awards was a similar affair with colors being the main theme of the awards.

Selena Gomez opted for a micro-mini shimmering gold dress that gave off a decidedly scandalous 1920s feel. She paired the dress with gold hoop earrings, strappy gold heels and bright coral lipstick. Gomez knows how to rock a trend right. Tangerine Tango was named Pantone's Color of the Year.

Gomez was accompanied by her boyfriend, pop star Justin Bieber. But the teenybopper couple decided to part ways before hitting the red carpet. Bieber posed for photographers at the MuchMusic Video Awards with his adorable little brother Jaxon. Although Bieber kept his attire simple with a black T-shirt and gold cross necklace, Jaxon looked adorably dapper in a white button down with heather gray sweater and dark denim pants.

Carly Rae Jepsen looked sexy in a leather gown with thigh-high slits and a multicolor tribal neckline accent. She complemented her look with smoky eye makeup and loose waves.

It was a new side of Jepsen, who was criticized for her style at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards in May.  For her performance, the 26-year-old wore a sparkling mint green shell top with sparking white and silver pants and sneakers. Many criticized the singer for dressing far too young for her age. Some thought that the look was contrived, since Jepsen's fan base is mainly young teenagers.

"It definitely seemed like a concerted effort to keep Carly's image squeaky clean and young. Did it work? Or was it a wasted opportunity to introduce Carly to a huge new audience that's never watched Justin Beiber [sic] lip-synch her song?" asked Crushable. 

Katy Perry went with a black, gold and leather gown for her red carpet appearance, which she topped off with violet-tinged hair. One outfit for this songstress is never enough. Perry went on to multiple costume changes, including a sheer bodysuit sprinkled with sparkling glitter and paired with butterfly wings.
