The stars of the NBA are making statements both on and off the court. On the court, they are dribbling hard to win the championship and keep their fans happy. Off the court, they leave the locker room in some of the latest fashions. They range from the preppy college boy look to Wall Street look. In a recent proess conference player LeBron James and Dwayne Wade were wearing glasses on Monday. Not sure if these were prescription glasses or just to worn to make a fashion statement, but it definitely had the press talking afterward.
According to and article in the New York Times, playe Russell Westbrook was wearing oversize frames without lenses at a news conference on Tuesday. In addition, Russell Westbrook wore khakis and a long-sleeve Prada shirt that was busier than his third quarter against the Miami Heat in Game 1 on Tuesday night. The shirt, adorned with images of singing and dancing hipsters dressed in funky pastels - suspended in a jazzy jam session of horn and bass players, with random cars zooming past - was an NBA finals fashion statement begging to go viral.
NBA player making fashion statements is nothing new. Fashion designers and retail brands such as Nike have been capitalizing off of the popularity of stars creating sneakers, sweat suits, and fragrances. Just as designers dress celebrities for awards events, they are now taking notice of sports superstars and what their image can do for their brand.
As the NBA finals continues, we will be watching the players before and after the game and it will be interesting to see what they wear. They have started a trend and the public wants to see it through.
