Claire's, the popular accessories and jewelry retailer, announced on Wednesday the appointment of James D. Fielding, former president of Disney Stores Worldwide, as their new CEO. 

"Jim is a proven retail executive with 25 years of experience who possesses a compelling combination of leadership skills and merchandising acumen," Peter P. Copses, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Claire's Stores, said in a press release.  "We are confident in Jim's ability to lead this team and to capitalize on the many growth opportunities available to Claire's today."

Claire's Stores Inc. is a major specialty realtor of affordable fashion and accessories for young women, teens, tweens and kids.   The company currently operates 3,074 stores in North America and Europe and has also franchised or licensed 375 stores in Japan, the Middle East, Turkey, Russia, Greece, Guatemala, Malta, Ukraine, Mexico and India. The stores also offer ear piercings. 

"I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to lead Claire's, a company with a longstanding heritage, an excellent market position, and an experienced management team," Fielding said in the release.  "In addition to driving same store sales through best-in-class merchandising and marketing strategies, I look forward to capitalizing on the many growth initiatives available to the company, including new stores, development of the Icing concept, continued international expansion in markets such as Mexico, India and China, and optimization of e-commerce."

Fielding handled all global operations for Disney Stores and served as architect of the company's brand and merchandising strategy, new store expansion and expansion of Disney's e-commerce business, among other enterprises.
