Melissa Leo shocked the audience when she dropped an F-bomb while accepting the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in “The Fighter.” "When I watched Kate [Winslet] win [the same award] two years ago, it looked so f*%king easy!" she said, causing host Anne Hathaway to remark, “Wow, and here I thought the 'F' stood for 'The Fighter.' It's the young and hip Oscars!’” After the ceremony, Leo apologized, saying she got caught in the moment and didn’t mean to offend.

8. Michael Moore’s Bush-bashing speech (2003)

Controversial filmmaker Michael Moore became infamous when he blasted then-president George W. Bush while accepting the Oscar for “Bowling for Columbine.” He called out “fictitious election results that result in a fictitious President” and said Bush “sent us to war for fictitious reasons.” He was met with boos and later stalked, threatened and had to get a security detail because of the death threats.
