The season 4 part 2 premiere of "The Walking Dead" left fans fearing for Rick's life as Carl takes over but still holds a lot of anger and resentment against his father, making him make rash decisions. Also, we find out about Michonne's past and spoilers for future episodes.

In episode 9, titled "After," we follow Carl and Rick right after the prison incident and right after Hershel's brutal death. They find an abandoned house. Rick is badly injured and ends up passing out. His son Carl shows viewers that he's more grown than they think and he takes over, but he's still angry over everything, especially about Hershel's death and baby Judith.

When searching for food, he had a few close calls with the walkers, and he also blasted his father while he was passed out, even saying that he'd be fine if Rick was dead.

Showrunner Scott M. Gimple told The Hollywood Reporter that Carl didn't mean what he was saying.

"There was so much that was being said between the things that were said leading up to that. There was so much tension that I think Rick could feel the resentment," Gimple said. About the "I wish you were dead" comment: "That was said out of anger and resentment. And that was radiating off his son. Rick knew about it before he was passed out."

We also find out about Michonne's past in her flaskback to her life before what it is now. She had a boyfriend and a baby. But that was all gone now. Now, she's wandering around with two walkers without teeth and arms as pets.

At the end of the episode, she ends up finding Rick and Carl.

So what should we expect in the new few episodes of "The Walking Dead?" One thing is Rick trying to get his son back.

Executive producer Robert Kirkman dished about Rick's attitude toward Carl, especially after him "becoming a man" and their relationship being "at its absolute lowest point."

"I think by the end of it you may have seen a strengthening of this relationship," Kirkman told Entertainment Weekly. "It may now be at its highest point. And I think seeing these two work in tandem or working in a team in a way they've never really done before is going to lead to interesting things coming up in the back half of this season."

Kirkman later added: "I love how Rick is almost unaware of all the things Carl has said to him and how he's just so hopeful and friendly and is just so accepting of Carl in that moment."

We expect to see more "loving" Rick and Carl moments in the next episode or the next, but we will see what these "interesting things" are later.

"Next week's episode has a really cool structure that affords us to not really have a central focus. There are a lot of answers next week -- at least a few major ones," Gimple dished. "You get other big answers next week and different pairings we haven't seen yet we will as stories that fold into each other. The deck gets shuffled. This week's episode was one of those moments in the show where we've told stories that have departed from the comics just to arrive exactly where the comic is and that was a great deal of fun to do."
