The royal doctor who delivered Prince George has been knighted by Queen Elizabeth.

Sir Marcus Setchell, the Queen’s physician and a consultant obstetrician, has been made a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, the BBC writes. The award recognizes Setchell’s services to the royal household for over 20 years and is a promotion from his previous title of Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, which he was awarded in 2005.

Along with leading the team of doctors who delivered Prince George this July, Setchell attended to Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge’s extreme morning sickness in early 2013 and assisted with the Duchess of Cornwall’s hysterectomy in 2007.

He also helped save the Countess of Wessex and her eldest child in 2003. Prince Edward’s wife Sophie was rushed to the hospital after complaining of severe internal pains while eight months pregnant; she was found to be dangerously ill from blood loss and needed an emergency Caesarean.

Setchell, 70, is due to retire. He delayed his planned retirement when Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge became pregnant and she and Prince William asked him to oversee the birth of their son.

"It was a precious, unforgettable moment when I held the future king of England," Setchell told reporters after Prince George’s birth, writes E! Online.

The Queen announced the honor in her New Year’s Honours list on December 31; the honors are awarded twice a year. Caroline Cassells, the matron at King Edward VII’s Hospital, where Kate, 31, was treated for morning sickness, was also awarded a special honor. Cassells was named Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order.

Other honorees this New Year include actresses Angela Lansbury, Penelope Keith, Michael Crawford and Lynda Bellingham, singer Katherine Jenkins, TV presenter Nicholas Parsons, the Queen’s private secretary Sir Christopher Geidt, the royal household’s chief cabinet maker David Weigh, the Queen’s head gardener at her Sandringham estate David Weigh, and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall’s assistant dresser Shona Williams.
