Pop music stars Jasmine Villegas and Becky Gomez opened up about their struggles to stardom in the February 2014 issue of Latina, which hits newsstands on January 7, 2014.

Villegas, 20, who co-starred in Justin Bieber's video for "Baby," has opened up about struggling in an abusive relationship when she was a teenager, reported Latina.com.

The Latin beauty told the mag that she had "dodged death" in her past relationship.

"I was working all the time and he was sitting on his butt. He blamed me for why he wasn't where he wanted to be," she said. "I dodged death in that relationship a couple of times. I never talked to him again."

She explained that she hopes her music video for "Didn't Mean It" can help other young people dealing with dating violence.

"You want to be honest with your fans. I am a girl going through relationships and breakups, and because I sing about it, it can't be separated from me, ever."

Gomez, 16, admitted that she spent most of her childhood living in her grandparents' garage with her parents and siblings.

"I'm really thankful and proud of where I came from. If you go through hard times, you learn to change it for the better," she said. "I want to build an empire, but I want it to be attainable for people who are where I was a few years ago."

Producer Dr. Luke discovered the young teen on YouTube just a few years later. To her surprise, her idol and mentor became Jennifer Lopez.

She is now the newest face of Cover Girl.

Lopez shocked the young star with a surprise appearance one day at the music studio.

"We recorded [her viral hit 'Becky From the Block'], and Luke sent it to her. She showed up at the studio a couple of days later and was like, 'What's up, Becky from the block?' I nearly died."
