Oscars 2014 Predictions: Can '12 Years a Slave' Dominate This Year's Nominations? SAG Awards Hints Details, 'Gravity,' 'American Hustle' vs. 'The Wolf of Wall Street' [TRAILER]

12 Years a Slave
(Photo : Facebook) "12 Years a Slave" may dominate the 2014 Oscars.

We have a strong hunch that "12 Years a Slave" will definitely be apart of the Oscars 2014 nominations when they are announced in January, but doesn't stop the many predictions of Best Picture and other categories, especially based off the 2014 SAG Awards nominees.

Many predictions are based off SAG's recent announcement of their nominations.

Steve McQueen's "12 Years a Slave" leads the list with four nominations in Outstanding Performance by a Case in a Motion Picture, Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role [Chiwetel Ejiofor], Outstanding Performance by a Male and Female Actor in a Supporting Role [Michael Fassbender and Lupita Nyong'o].

Will "12 Years a Slave" take over?

There is something to be said about "12 Years a Slave" leading the way. It means it could lead the way in the Oscars also.

The Daily Beast pointed out:

Actors make up the largest segment of Academy members, so their tea leaves are the best when it comes to the acting races (let's be honest, the races we care most about). By that regard, expect 12 Years a Slave, Dallas Buyers Club, August: Osage County, and Lee Daniels' The Butler to do well at this year's Oscars-12 Years leads SAG nominees with four nods, followed by three a piece for the Dallas, August, and The Butler. Also expect contenders who seemed to have all-but lost their buzz-Forest Whitaker in Best Actor for The Butler, Daniel Bruhl for Rush, and James Gandolfini for Enough Said, both in Supporting Actor-to be back in contention again.

Rope of Silicon said that AFI's Top 10 Films of 2013 might also hint the Oscars 2014 nominations.

The list is:

  • 12 Years a Slave
  • American Hustle
  • Captain Phillips
  • Fruitvale Station
  • Gravity
  • Her
  • Inside Llewyn Davis
  • Nebraska
  • Saving Mr. Banks
  • The Wolf of Wall Street

But Entertainment Weekly pointed out that it's time to give other great movies a chance:

"For months, it has been a two-way race between Gravity and 12 Years a Slave. That gets dull for voters. December is a time for game-changers and so far we've seen two: American Hustle and The Wolf of Wall Street, each of which have been eagerly anticipated all year."

Along with these four popular films, EW predicts that "Saving Mr. Banks," "Nebraska," "Captain Phillips," "Her," "Inside Llewyn Davis," "Philomena," "August: Osage County," and "Blue Jasmine" will also be nominated.
