Christina Hendricks has opened up about “Mad Men’s” final season, calling it “crazy” and “mad.”

Speaking to The Star, Hendricks – who plays secretary-turned-partner Joan Harris – said of Season 7, “It’s crazy, it’s mad, it’s just what you’d expect it to be. Every time a new script arrives we just fall on it and tear it apart looking for clues as to where our characters are going to wind up.

“We’re about to start filming the third episode and, honestly, no one knows where it’s going to end.”

Hendricks also opened up about her character.

“It’s rare, so rare to get a part like Joan,” she said. “Someone with so many different sides to them, and to get the chance to live with the story and character for eight years now.

“By this point in the evolution of the show I don’t just shoot a scene about Joan getting a cup of tea. It’s about who she’s getting it for, who she passes on the way to the kitchen, how they look at each other and what it means. I love it!”

She also talked about Joan being made a partner of the advertising firm, and how the title change hasn’t changed how the other partners see her.

“That was an exciting and difficult episode to pull off. But it also raised a lot of questions, not just for me but for the other cast members,” she said.

“What does Joan being a partner really mean? Is she getting the respect and voting status that the men have? Or did they just slap a title on her and tell her to go take care of the secretaries? The men keep acknowledging how important she is to the firm, but they keep treating her like a second-class citizen.”

Hendricks talked about AMC’s decision to air half of “Mad Men” season 7 in spring 2014 and half in spring 2015.

“I know it can be a bit frustrating to me as an actor, because I would just like to keep going. But our writers really put their blood and guts into the scripts, and they need the time off to regroup and recuperate,” she said.

Hendricks next talked about what characters she’ll miss – showing some love for Joan’s and Roger Sterling’s on-again, off-again romance.

“Joan, of course, I’ll miss her. And Roger. How can I not miss him after all we’ve been through,” she said.

“Don Draper? He made a habit out of behaving badly from day one and everyone thought it was so attractive and sexy and wanted to be like him. Now that his life seems to be falling apart, I don’t think anyone wants to emulate him anymore.”
