“Mad Men” fans know that the characters’ personal styles have changed drastically throughout the six-season TV show, reflecting both the changing fashions and character development. We’ve seen the stars’ style change through the years, too, as they’ve gone from almost-unknowns to A-list actors and actresses.
Christina Hendricks, nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series for the fourth time, might be the best example of this style evolution, both on-screen and off. When Hendricks, 38, first appeared on “Mad Men,” her acting resume was unremarkable, save for a brief but popular appearance in the cult TV show “Firefly.” Now, she’s an A-list star, splitting screentime with Ryan Gosling in “Drive” and Charlize Theron in the upcoming “Dark Places.”
Hendricks’ character, Joan Harris, née Holloway, has undergone a similar transformation, from secretary to business partner and single mother. In “Mad Men’s” latest season, she defended her role in the company against doubters like Harry Crane, formed a friendship with the mysterious Bob Benson and worked with Peggy to nab a big new client, Avon cosmetics.
