Eminem fans can’t wait for his new album, “MMLP2,” scheduled for release on November 5. The “Survival” rapper has mostly kept quiet about his new project, but James Larese, director of the “Berzerk” music video, has recently opened up about Eminem, while sportscaster Brent Musburger opened up about the rapper’s bizarre ESPN interview.
Larese, who worked with Eminem on the “Berzerk” music video [WATCH BELOW] told MLive that Eminem is “hungry” for his new release and that he’s bringing back old school hip hop.
“It is right there in the lyrics, ‘Let’s take it back to straight Hip-Hop and start it from scratch…’ He is hungry and wants to bring back that feeling of why we fell in love with this genre to begin with,” Larese said.
Larese added that it took about a month to create the video concept, shoot the scenes and edit the music video.
He said that while working with Eminem, he learned that the rapper was a huge football fan – something that Eminem displayed in a bizarre interview on ESPN’s “Saturday Night Football” that went viral.
The rapper appeared extremely uncomfortable in front of the camera and said that there was “nothing” he was excited about for his new album, yet gushed about how he was a huge fan of the announcers Brent Musburger and Kirk Herbstrelt.
Musburger opened up to ESPN’s Front Row about the experience, defending Eminem from criticism.
“He was great to work with. As goofy as he appeared at first, it was all part of the ‘Berzerk’ persona he took on,” Musburger said.
“The crossover with – and great contrast of – generations is what made this one so powerful. There are, I’m sure those who were scratching their head saying ‘why is there this guy on a football game’ along with the millions who were saying ‘that’s the best rapper in the world.’ I don’t feel the interview was out of place and personally enjoyed it.”
Musburger added that Eminem asked him for an autograph and said that he was flattered when Eminem called him a “legend” during the interview.
“I was completely taken by surprise. I had no idea he thought of me the way he did. I was a little taken aback when he said it because the interview was about him and he turned it to about me. It was flattering and unexpected,” Musburger said.
